Christmas Reflections

Christmas is almost upon us! It is always amazing to me how much time and preparation that goes into one day a year! I must say though that Christmas is my favorite holiday! I love that it is a day to celebrate Christ's birth and the awesomeness and generosity of God. It is also a day when hearts come home to celebrate and enjoy the company of family and friends.

This year I find myself thinking about Mary and what that first Christmas was like for her. Randy Travis has recorded a song called, "Labor of Love." I love it almost as much as Amy Grant's, "Breath of Heaven." Both are songs about Mary and her experiences in being pregnant with God's Son. In "Labor of Love" the song speaks of Mary being alone in a dirty hole in the wall with no mother's hand to hold. Mary was so young-probably a girl of 14 or 15. Imagine being a teenager and learning that God has chosen you to carry His child. You are married to a godly man named Joseph that you hardly know. Yet you owe your life to him, as he is the reason you are still alive and were not stoned to death. She must have wondered why God had chosen her for this task. Yet the scriptures never say Mary complained, moaned, or griped about it. She must have been scared not knowing what the future would bring for her or the son she was carrying. Yet she seemed to relish in the grace that was shown to her. She chose to do what was right in the eyes of God. Her faithfulness and her humility are to be looked at as an example of what being a truly godly woman is all about!
